Six years ago we build a second website for our client Aqua Palace Spas & Pools that focused on in-ground pools. The main site covered the in-ground choices available at Aqua Palace showcasing more on the brands and models of vinyl liner and fiberglass pools as well as options for shot-crete pools. Aqua Palace wanted the OmahaPoolBuilder website to get in more detail of the differences, including the specific advantages of building a vinyl liner, fiberglass and shot-crete in-ground swimming pool. We went to great lengths to make it visually and functionally quite different from the AquaPalace site with the goal that this site would index and rank on its own for search results with in-ground related key words.
The first OmahaPoolBuilder site was built on WordPress. Our developer Steve Morse used full extent of his coding skills to customize the basic WordPress infrastructure to make it look and work as we wanted it. Actually, “hacked” was the term Steve used to build the site in our unique design and functionality. It was quite an extensive project. All along Steve warned that all this hacking… errr, customization may only work up to the next WordPress update. Update? Yes, Steve reminded us that in order to protect the security of the site and its ability to perform well on browser upgrades we had to take the updates. To make a long story short, as much as we tried to hold off, we had to eventually make essential updates. Steve was able to keep up on adjusting the site to keep it working as designed until we all became heavily involved in re-building the main AquaPalace site. It seemed months went by before made critical WorpPress updates. At that point our beautiful site imploded… and gone.
Fortunately the client had new ideas for the OmahaPoolBuilder site. It would still focus on in-ground pools, but be used more as a blog format to document new in-ground pool building projects. Basically, this site would tell the story about each project, the choices made going with vinyl liner, fiberglass and shot-crete pools as well as various pool features, the building, the landscaping and final results using plenty of images to go into the blog entries. This made re-constructing of site quite easy. We found our WordPress theme and built a much simpler PoolBuilder website. When completed we handed the “keys” over to the client, instructed how to post, add images, videos, links… and offered as much of our assistance as needed to keep the site going.
The site built and finished this past March. It turned out great. While the client was quite enthused about adding content with summer pool building projects there hasn’t been much more added to the site since completion. Well, there’s always next year.
